Digging Deeper

Do you ever feel like you are missing something? As we are reading through the Book of Psalms this summer, you will have times in your study where you feel like you don’t have all the information you need. A psalm will seem like it is saying more than you are understanding or referencing something you don’t know. When that happens, what will you do?

One idea is to turn to commentaries. Commentaries are books that provide background and insight into Scripture. While thousands upon thousands of commentaries have been published, many are for scholarly work or beyond the scope of devotions and Bible study. If you are interested in digging deeper in the psalms that you read, I recommend a simple place to begin.

Matthew Henry was a sixteenth-century English protestant minister who published an extensive commentary on all of Scripture. His work is now in the public domain and free to use. You can follow this link here – https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/matthew-henry/Psalms – to find his commentary on the Psalms. While he was a man of his time, his writings still hold up today and are an excellent place to start with your studies. If you are interested in knowing more or looking at more contemporary commentaries on the Psalms, please come talk to me. I can connect you with resources that can deepen and enrich your study this summer.

I am so thankful that you are on the journey with me!
